The Bad Death of Kim Hyung-Tae
A Small Village on the Songhua River in Manchuoko
Hyung-Tae sighed in pleasure as his wife Yu-Te poured the hot water over his head.
It had been a long day on the river, but the catch had been magnificent. Hyung-Tae grinned at the thought- he'd been a terrible farmer, truth be told, but he appeared to have found his calling at long last. True, the Kims were one of two Korean families in the entire village, but that wasn't so bad. Ever since the Japanese had invaded, much of the hate and distrust had been on them.
Yu-Te rubbed her husband's shoulders as he lounged in the washtub.
"A good day then, husband?"
"The best... where's Kwan-Jin?"
